Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE 

  • Lead high-profile projects across Sydney from concept to completion, applying and developing your technical skills to creatively tackle complex engineering problems, delivering high-quality and detailed designs. 
  • Representing XK, you will manage and develop valuable relationships with project partners, including architects, consultants, project managers and builders. 
  • Regular professional and technical development through structured CPD sessions, mentorship, projects support and guidance. 

As an Senior Structural Engineer at a leadership level, you have a demonstrated experience in the following:

Technical: 

  • Comprehensive understanding of structural design principles and their application to engineering design and construction 
  • Thorough understanding of Australian Building Codes and Standards, and their application 
  • Understands current industry practices, proprietary products, materials and construction techniques, and their application within projects 
  • Able to develop analysis models and prepare calculations with high precision and accuracy 
  • Experience in several of the following areas of design: masonry, composite construction, post tensioned concrete, precast concrete, pre-tension, pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and cross laminated timber panel construction 
  • Prepare calculations demonstrating compliance with Australian Standards
  • Assist in the leadership of the team by providing guidance to junior engineers 
  • Experience in several of the following areas of design: masonry, composite construction, post tensioned concrete, precast concrete, pre-tension, pre-stressed concrete, reinforced concrete, structural steel, timber and cross laminated timber panel construction
  • Software
  • High-level of competence in the following software, RAPT, RAM, Spacegass or Microstran. Ideally one, or more of the following - Structural Toolkit, RCB, ETABS, Strand7 and GSA. 

 
Project Delivery: 

  • Solid understanding of project management principles and application in day-to-day tasks and project delivery 
  • Able to undertake site inspections and assess conditions relevant to input into the design process 
  • Able to plan and carry out design tasks with limited guidance and support 
  • Able to provide technical guidance and support to engineers and draftspersons 
  • Understands the role of engineers in terms of contributing to sustainable projects with the application of XK values 
  • Able to participate in design meetings and to liaise with local authorities 
  • Able to lead design development and manage the quality of deliverables produced by the project team 
  • Experience managing day-to-day communication and coordination with project partners and relevant stakeholders 
  • Ability to manage internal communication and coordination of project information and deliverables 
  • Understanding of project performance principals, with experience monitoring and reporting on project progress

  • Minimum 5 years of engineering design experience within a reputable engineering consultancy 
  • Ambitious with great energy and passion for structural engineering 
  • Sound technical understanding of relevant Australian Standards
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • An interest in interacting with external design teams and developing skills to assist in the management of the internal team.
